Name some queer heroes, influences, or crushes
Oh my where do I start…? Antony Hegarty, Ivan E. Coyote, Ian Harv ie, Del La Grace Volcano, Rocco D’Amore, S. Bear Bergman, Ani DiFranco, Bitch and Animal, Lyndell Montgomery, Lee Harrington, Sam Orchard, Leslie Feinberg, Dude Magazine, Dyles to Watch Out For, genderqueer and trans* friends.
Above are just a few of my queer heroes and influences (there is no way I am going to admit ot my crushes) – there are probably more but I just can’t think right now. Many of my heroes and influences are people who I meet at conferences, meetings, at social events, friends and acquaintances – I don’t think some of you know how much your words have helped me. Take for example a well known trans activisit within the Melbourne community who is tireless in her work as a bi, trans and polyamourous woman. I’ve known her for a few years and almost see her as a mentor and older sister. Then there are friends who just get me in all my genderqueerness and who are trans and/or genderqueer themselves and have offered their wisdom and time to share with me. Probably at the top of my list is my partner who’s been through her own trans journey and is supporting me through mine.
